What they do:
The most common complaint voiced about deer is damage to trees and gardens. The most deadly encounters with deer occur on roadways. Each year in the US some 200 people are killed and more than 25,000 are injured in car deer collisions. The impact on nature is equally tragic, More than 500,000 deer die in these accidents.

What you can do:
To avoid hitting a deer:

Always watch for wildlife especially at dawn, dusk and the first few hours of darkness.

In the dark, watch for the reflection of your headlights in a deer’s eyes at the roadside

Always glance to the side to check for movement. If you see a deer at the roadside do not expect it to remain still—deer often jump out into oncoming traffic.

If you see one deer there are likely more around, so reduce your speed.

Be especially cautious during mid-to-late fall.

If a deer freezes in your headlights try turning your lights off and then on again.

To Keep them off your property:
Fencing

Perimeter boundary incorporating sturdy wooden, fiberglass, or metal posts

Extend fencing 1ft below ground and 8-10 feet above ground

Openings should be no more than 4 inches wide regardless of fencing material

Mesh Netting

Rolls out over bushes , drapes over trees to protect individual plants

Rolls back up when not needed

Most effective when used for short periods during critical growth times (reduces browsing but might not eliminate it)

Line boundaries and borders with repellent or resistant plants

Create a barrier of hedges to reduce the view of the garden

Scare Devices

Put out strobe lights that rotate or flash

Install motion lights or sensor lights that come on when deer approach

String mylar tape that reflects and moves between trees

Anchor helium balloons with monofilament line above ground

Play a radio or recorded animal noises

Hang aluminum pie pans that bang together

Invest in an ultrasonic device that is intolerable to deer but inaudible to humans

Set your sprinklers on motion detection, or rotate the timer so deer can’t learn the schedule

Deer Diseases

Rabies is an infectious viral disease that affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals. People get rabies from the bite of an infected animal or if infectious material from a rabid animal, such as saliva, gets directly into their eyes, nose, mouth or a wound. Rabies and tularemia also occur and may be transmitted to humans and other animals. Coyotes often carry parasites, including mites, ticks, fleas, worms and flukes. Rabies in raccoons is spreading throughout the eastern United States. Moving animals from one area to another may spread this or other diseases to new areas.

Rabies can be confirmed only in a laboratory. However, any bat that is active by day, is found in a place where bats are not usually seen (for example, in a room in your home or on the lawn), or is unable to fly, is far more likely than others to be rabid. Rabies is a viral disease of mammals that attacks an infected animal's nervous system. Rabies symptoms in wildlife, particularly foxes and raccoons, include lethargy, walking in circles, loss of muscular coordination, convulsions, irritability or aggressiveness, disorientation, excessive drooling of saliva, and showing no fear of humans. Rabies, a virus, progressively paralyzes and can kill any mammal, including humans. Rabies is generally contracted through contact with an infected mole through biting.

Rabies poses a substantial human health risk, while distemper does not. These diseases can be recognized by clinical signs such as disorientation, a marked increase in aggression, and a basic loss of all typical behaviors. Rabies and leptospirosis are the primary diseases responsible for deaths in skunks. Skunks are a primary source of infection for other species of animals involving these two diseases.

Virus present in the infected animal's saliva enters the victim's tissues during the bite. The virus attaches to the local muscle cells for a couple of days before penetrating to local nerves and beginning its slow ascent to the brain. Viruses are microscopic organisms, so you can't see them with your eyes. Other viruses you've probably heard of are flu viruses and AIDS.

Bites by these animals are usually not considered a risk of rabies unless the animal appeared sick or was behaving in an unusual manner. The one exception has been woodchucks or groundhogs, which have occasionally been reported to have rabies. Bites on the hands or feet have a higher risk of infection than bites to other parts of the body.

Females are generally smaller than males and western coyotes are generally smaller than eastern coyotes. Coyotes look like small collie dogs. Female fox will have 3-10 pups from March to May, depending on the part of the country. They live in dens and it is not uncommon to find several litters present in the spring .
