Press Release Issued July 11th, 2006
Ne
w Animal Control building useful tool in the safe handling of animals

The Animal Control Division of the Worcester County Sheriffs Office and the officers who serve therein play vital roles in our community, as they safely control and care for needy animals and protect the public from aggressive and dangerous animals. Recognizing the need for a facility that could adequately contain and house these animals, the county constructed and recently completed the new Worcester County Animal Control building. On Wednesday, July 5, the Commissioners joined with Worcester County Sheriff Charles T. Martin, Chief Animal Control Officer Clyde Curtis and Animal Control staff, area veterinarians and community members to officially dedicate the new facility.
This state-of-the-art, 4,800 square-foot, building is a valuable tool that enables the team of Animal Control Officers to effectively carry out the mission of Animal Control for the safe and humane treatment of animals. The $893,433 facility was designed by Todd & Associates with construction being monitored by SPN.
Within the confines of the building are 26 indoor runs, 14 of which are both indoor/outdoor runs, and two cat rooms. Two adoption rooms (one for dogs and one for cats) offer residents the opportunity to spend time getting to know their prospective future pets. Other amenities include administrative offices, a locker room and restrooms equipped with shower facilities, laundry/grooming room, storage space, euthanasia room, and a drive thru shelter, which provides for the safety of the animal control officers and the safe containment of the animals as they are being unloaded.
While the doors of the new Animal Control building have only been open to the public since February 25, 2006, it has already been used to house 81 animals, including 47 dogs and 34 cats. Of the animals that have been housed within the facility, 30 have been adopted into loving homes. Residents are invited to tour the facility and to learn more about the role of both Animal Control and the public in the safe and humane treatment of animals. For more information on how you can adopt an animal, please contact Animal Control at (410) 632-1340.
