Most humans cannot tolerate beavers when they devour the ornamental trees that humans plant . Naples Armadillo Removal    The nine-banded or long-nosed armadillo, Dasypus novemcinctus, is a common but non-native inhabitant of Naples Florida and the only armadillo present in the U.S. Because of its often destructive feeding and burrowing habits in both rural and urban settings, most people who have an Naples armadillo around their home consider it a serious pest. There are actually about 20 species of armadillos in the world and for information on the biology and behavior of these interesting Naples critters I highly recommend the Web site http://www.msu.edu/~nixonjos/armadillo.    My purpose here is to demonstrate a successful method of capturing and removing Naples armadillos in an effective, safe and humane manner. While the nine-banded armadillo plays a useful ecological role by consuming large quantities of insects as food, when they take up residence in your yard, garden or worse, dig burrows under your buildings, they can be very destructive and an extreme nuisance.

Wild turkey and bobwhite quail also can be found on the refuge. Over 189 species of birds use the refuge at some time during the year. Prominent bird groups include wading birds, shorebirds, diving water birds, and raptors. The Service manages the 95-million-acre National Wildlife Refuge System, which encompasses 544 national wildlife refuges, thousands of small wetlands and other special management areas. It also operates 69 national fish hatcheries, 63 Fish and Wildlife Management offices and 81 ecological services field stations.  This far-ranging wildlife refuge is just 20 miles east of Naples and north of I-75, with headquarters at Exit 15. It protects a number of endangered and threatened species across 93,000,000 acres. A-The refuge staff with other professionals apply prescribed fire to various habitats to accomplish a variety of objectives. Fire is an inexpensive and efficient tool that has been used for thousands of years to clear the undergrowth and revitalize the understory species. The big attraction is the appropriately named Wildlife Drive, a 5-mile, unpaved but smooth gravel road that winds through the mangroves into the heart of the refuge. Before taking the drive, be sure to pick up a copy of the Wildlife Drive Guide at the visitor center. It's home to 291 species of birds, more than 50 types of reptiles and at least 32 different mammals. The estate showcases information on the lives, friendships, inventions and fascinating history behind two of the world's most remarkable men. In addition 11 deep frozen birds and animals (including 6 Kingfishers and several tortoises) and 8 living birds in cages were found and confiscated (several finch species and 4 Skylarks). Two nets and 1 cage trap were also secured. Around 350 species of birds, 300 species of fish, 40 species of mammals and 50 species of reptiles also call this park home while enjoying the protection it offers.  Naples Wildlife is a unique guide to commonly viewed birds, reptiles, mammals and butterflies native to South Florida. The folding design conveniently fits into a backpack or pocket. The area is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Located on site, the Blair Audubon Center maintains creative exhibits and productions to demonstrate the history and life of the cypress forest within the sanctuary. Cruise and sail through bays and estuaries, take nature walks and go birding along beaches and wetlands, see the Everglades and so much more. All of these adventures are right in your own “backyard” when you stay at one of our Naples Florida Vacation Homes.  Early birds can begin the day by perusing the beach for seashells. After that, water sports, deep sea fishing, and browsing local stores are wonderful ways to pass time. Bird watchers will enjoy lingering around the Blair Audubon Center there are bird feeders placed at the start of the boardwalk to attract a large variety of birds including hummingbirds and butterflies. Numerous songbirds and marshland birds may be viewed on the area. Turkey vultures are commonly viewed near the wetland area and adjacent to South Hill.  The park is known for its rich bird life, particularly large wading birds, such as the roseate spoonbill, wood stork, great blue heron and a variety of egrets. It is also the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles exist side by side. Stroll and explore powdery beaches, swim in the turquoise Gulf of Mexico or kayak through an estuary filled with tropical birds, wildlife and unique plant life. A half full 25 lb bag of dog food or bird seed in a screened-in porch saves a bear from finding over 5,000 acorns.  On Monday my dogs were barking and barking and then I heard the strangest bird call I won't even try to repeat it. I did an imitation for my husband and his response was " Can you please do that again". The protected habitat allows alligators, endangered bird species, white-tailed deer, bobcats and the endangered Florida panther to thrive. The park also provides fisherman with plenty of chances to snag tarpon, snook and redfish. They're about 3&1/2 ft tall, bright pink birds, with the "platypus-type" spoonbill. Tons of fish too. The beach has picnic tables for your enjoyment, nature trails, showers, lifeguards, and a observation tower! Benches and rain shelters are along the trail. For those who do not wish to walk the full 2.25 miles, an optional trail shortens the walk to one mile. Black Island has over five miles of multi-use trails for hiking and bicycling. Anglers and boaters can launch their vessels from the park?s boat ramp. Business and Administrative offices are also open for business as usual. Become a member or renew your membership today to receive FREE ADMISSION to the Naples Zoo through October 31. Volunteer naturalists are usually on the boardwalk to answer questions. Field guides and children's activity books can be purchased at the Admissions desk/store.
