Pigeons are seeking food, nesting and roosting (or perching) sites. If these needs cannot be met, the pigeons will be forced to move elsewhere. Pigeons are also unusually skilled in finding water and food sources, and rarely have trouble. Individual pigeons can have a home range of 150 miles, although most will stay close to home, which is generally considerably less than 25 miles or so. Pigeons are strong fliers and can fly up to 40 or 50 miles per hour. Some pigeons are raised for their exceptional abilities to fly fast and find their ways home. Pigeons are very clever and can find there way home 100′s of miles away. I use to enter a yearly race, over 1000 kilometers and my birds would always return. Pigeons are not that complicated and apparently solely interested in the food (reward).
