Raccoon Removal and Racccoon Trapping Raccoons are quick runners, but they are not always fast enough to flee from large enemies. But with their sharp claws, raccoons are good tree climbers. Raccoons are also susceptible to a host of parasites and diseases, including rabies and canine distemper. In the late 1970s one of the largest known rabies epidemics associated with raccoons began in Virginia and North Carolina. Raccoons are widespread throughout the United States and have extended their range well into Canada. They are found in all types of habitats, but they generally prefer mature woodlands and riparian or wetland regions. Raccoons are nocturnal and usually spend daylight hours at rest. Raccoons are active mostly during the evening hours. On most days, they leave their den soon after dusk and are active until morning. Raccoons are primarily nocturnal, so most of this mischief happens at night. Raccoons are also susceptible to a host of parasites and diseases, including rabies and canine distemper. In the late 1970s one of the largest known rabies epidemics associated with raccoons began in Virginia and North Carolina. Raccoons are capable of traveling great distances to find food and territory. If you stop feeding, raccoon populations will slowly adjust to the level that can be accommodated by the available natural habitat. Raccoons are protected by law. No one may possess a raccoon without a license, and licenses are not issued for pet wildlife. Raccoons are relatively easy to catch in traps, but it takes a sturdy trap to hold one. Foothold traps may be used on rural sites but should never be used in an urban area. Raccoons are difficult to trap- it is hard to find a bait that will entice them into a box when they could be raiding a garden. Traps placed with their open ends against a raccoon-proof fence at a 45 degree angle to the fence often trap raccoons that are being persistent in trying to find a way under, over or through a fence. Raccoons are omnivorous, eating both plant and animal foods. They make their homes in hollow trees or logs, rock dens, brush piles, muskrat houses, barns, abandoned buildings, haystacks, dense clumps of cattails and occasionally ground burrows. Raccoons are nocturnal or night-time active animals. Urban raccoon populations are frequently underestimated because people seldom see them traveling during the daytime. Raccoons are also serious predators of wild bird populations. Reports indicate that raccoons have been responsible for eliminating local populations of some nesting waterfowl. Raccoons are responsible for more of these complaints than any other species because they readily den in people's attics and chimneys. People with special licenses are allowed to remove raccoons and other wildlife that are causing damage. Raccoons are nocturnal, though they may leave their dens during the day to bask in the sun or forage for food. The home range of an adult male may be as large as 3.2 km (2 mi.) And as small as 18.2 hectares (45 acres), with an average range of 204 hectares (504 acres).
Flying Squirrel Removal And Flying Squirrel Trapping Flying squirrels are the smallest of the tree squirrels, the least common, and the only nocturnal tree squirrel (although fox squirrels have been occasionally noted to exhibit nighttime activity). They are found in isolated populations around the state. Flying squirrels are about the same size as red squirrels, with large, reflective black eyes for better night vision. The colouring is duller than a red squirrel and you will be able to see the extra flap of skin on each side. Flying squirrels are nocturnal. Most squirrels are diurnal which means they are active during the day. Flying squirrels are very long lived in captivity - up to 12 years. They will store food in their nest in great quantities. Flying squirrels are small to medium rodents highly adapted for an arboreal lifestyle. They are generally slim and leggy animals with large bushy tails, which often makes them appear larger than they actually are. Flying Squirrels are arboreal nocturnal creatures not generally found in the pet trade. But the Southern Flying Squirrel ( Glaucomys volans ) is sometimes available in states where it is legal to own. Flying squirrels are not partial to cone samaras, as was once believed. Flying squirrels are the most arboreal of the squirrels, meaning that they are least likely to descend to the forest floor and prefer to occupy the highest levels of the forest. Consequently, only mature forest stands with complete canopies are suitable for these squirrels; flying squirrels are rarely found in younger forests. Flying squirrels are not true fliers but gliders. They leap from high vantages and spread the arms and legs, stretching the loose skin of the body into an efficient sail.
Skunk Removal and Skunk control will always be unpredictable. Skunks are predators and can decimate ground-nesting wild bird populations and local populations of endangered species of small mammals. Skunks are not true hibernators. They venture out of their dens for short distances when temperatures are near the freezing mark and snow conditions are favorable. Skunks are fur bearers, and this classification provides them with legal protection except during the hunting and trapping season. Skunk activity rarely causes serious economic loss; rather, their scent creates a nuisance around occupied buildings. Skunks are fearless and won�t back down when endangered, especially during their breeding season. This is another reason they are so often struck by vehicles at this time of the year. Skunks are perhaps most well known for their defense strategy. When confronted, striped skunks will face the threat, arch and elevate their tail, erect the tail hairs, chatter their teeth, and stomp the ground with their front feet. Skunks are active both day and night and seem to be most active during the late evening and early hours of the night. They den up in groups during the winter. Skunks are excellent “mousers”, and may even be better at it then cats. They eat many mice, rats, other small rodents, grubs, and a variety of insects.
Opossum trapping and opossum removal is less dangerous than most other wildlife control, it is still not for everyone. The opossum is part of the kangaroo family. usually the opossum resides in the lower areas of your dwelling. The opossum usually feeds on the dead caucus of other animals. Trapping opossums removal and exclusion is the best way to handle these creatures. Opossums usually are ground dwelling animals, if you hear noises in the attic and saw opossum in the back yard, it doesn't mean its in your attic, although it can be if the attic has easy access. These opossums are sometimes referred to possums. Marsupials are mammals that carry their young in a pouch. Other marsupials include kangaroos, koalas and sugar gliders. Marsupial babies are born after only thirteen days of gestation (gestation is the time lapsing between when the sperm unites with the egg, and the creature is born). At birth, newborn opossums are so tiny that an entire litter, consisting of up to 14 babies, can fit into a single teaspoon. Marsupials are animals, like kangaroos, that have pouches in which to carry their young. Baby opossums are born in groups of about twelve.
Snake Removal snakes get the worst publicity of all. They have been feared since biblical times. Although snakes are sometimes thought to stalk humans that's quite untrue. they're very east to predict. Food, heat and water is all they pursue. Beaver Removal Beavers are more than intriguing animals with flat tails and lustrous fur. American Indians called the beaver the "sacred center" of the land because this species creates rich habitats for other mammals, fish, turtles, frogs, birds and ducks. Beavers are highly adapted to an aquatic environment, possessing thick, waterproof fur, webbed hind feet for swimming, and nose and ear valves that close underwater. They can slow their heart rates while under water and use oxygen stored in their livers, which allows them to stay under water for as long as 20 minutes. Beavers are the largest member of the rodent family, and research has shown that rodents begin breeding at earlier ages and produce more offspring in response to an abrupt decline in population levels. One North Carolina city has been lethal trapping its beavers for the last 5 years, and they continue to kill 10 to 20 beavers a month, and the end is nowhere in sight. Beavers are being reintroduced into pockets of the United States, Scandinavia, and Russia from which they had vanished. However, such introductions may cause problems. Beavers are known for building dams, canals, and lodges (homes). They are the second-largest rodent in the world (after the capybara ). Beavers are nearly allied to the squirrels (Sciuridae), agreeing in certain structural peculiarities of the lower jaw and skull. In the Sciuridae the two main bones (tibia and fibula) of the lower half of the leg are quite separate, the tail is round and hairy, and the habits are arboreal and terrestrial.
Beavers are responsible for creating many of the woodland ponds that support lush vegetation and eventually become meadows. Beavers are very territorial, and will not allow other beavers into an area that contains an active colony. Any animals relocated can only be released on private ground with written permission, and in 20 years of beaver trapping I have yet to find a property owner who wants them in their lake or pond. Beavers are famously busy, and they turn their talents to reengineering the landscape as few other animals can. When sites are available, beavers burrow in the banks of rivers and lakes. Beavers are built for underwater work. The beaver's large front teeth?or incisors?protrude in front of their lips, enabling them to cut and chew submerged wood without getting water in their mouths. Beavers are monogamous animals, which means they pair with the same mate for life. Mating takes place during January and February, and kits (young beavers) are born in May or June. Beavers are nocturnal (active at night), but may be seen during the day in late summer and fall when they are busy preparing for winter. They are well known for their ability to build dams, canals and lodges, though most in Illinois live in burrows.
Beavers are North America's largest native rodents, weighing between 35 and 80 pounds as adults. They can be 2-3 feet in length, with an additional 10-18 inches for the tail. Beavers are primarily nocturnal. They are only occasionally seen during the day, usually around dusk. Beavers are very verbal with their children and are disciplined. They spank their children when they do not do the right things. Beavers are born knowing how to build lodges and dams. They stand on their hind legs and cut down trees, while balancing on their tail. Beavers are known to mate for life, and with a life span of about eight years, (there have been those aged as old as nineteen years) a male and female will produce many litters of kits throughout their lives. Beaver mothers are often kept busy, as they often have both a new litter and a ?teenage? Beavers are extremely important for our forests. Beavers are well-known for their engineering abilities. They build dams with brush and tree trunks on a foundation of mud and stones to flood an area for their lodge, to stay safe from predators and promote growth of their favorite foods. Beavers are strict vegetarians and eat a variety of water and land plants as well as the leaves, branches and bark of trees, mostly aspen, cottonwood, willow and alder. However, since the entrances to their lodges and dens are underwater (to protect them from predators), when the pond freezes, they are many times restricted to the food supply within the pond. Beavers are aquatic rodents which live in rivers, streams, ponds, lakes or other wetland areas. In Indiana, beavers are not uncommon to find in urban and suburban areas.
Beavers are one of the few mammals who mate for life. Both parents help take care of the babies. Beavers are an important part of the environment—but only in territory that doesn’t encroach on human living spaces. Beavers are hard for an animal to kill because they can dodge into one of their plunge holes. Sometimes a beaver will bite its enemy with its sharp teeth and drag their enemy to the water to drown. Beavers are active through the winter, though most of their activity takes place underwater where they have stored wood they later take into their lodge to eat. But we found signs that at least one had been out since the snow had fallen. Beavers are social creatures and they live and work with other beavers. They become sexually mature around their third year of life and breed once a year. Beavers are adept at keeping populations at just the right level. When an area becomes too populous reproductive rates begin to decline, likewise, beavers tend to produce larger litters when numbers begins to dwindle. Beavers are excellent swimmers and can stay underwater for 15 minutes at a time. They are able to close their nostrils and ears to keep water out. Beavers are built for underwater work. Their noses and ears have valves that close when beavers submerge. Beavers are herbivores and don't eat fish and so won't affect fish stocks. They also clear rivers by using fallen debris for their dams.". Beavers are cute, industrious, ingenious, soft, and life-changing for their immediate environment. The animal's pretty spiffy, too. Beavers are large, nocturnal and semi-aquatic rodents, which are known for their unique skill of building dams and lodges. They are closely related to squirrels, as they share some structural similarities with them, with regard to lower jaw and skull.

Efforts should be made to remove food attractants, such as open garbage containers and food scattered around dumpsters or parking lots. Pigeons are seeking food, nesting and roosting (or perching) sites. If these needs cannot be met, the pigeons will be forced to move elsewhere. Pigeons are also unusually skilled in finding water and food sources, and rarely have trouble. Individual pigeons can have a home range of 150 miles, although most will stay close to home, which is generally considerably less than 25 miles or so. Pigeons are strong fliers and can fly up to 40 or 50 miles per hour. Some pigeons are raised for their exceptional abilities to fly fast and find their ways home. Pigeons are very clever and can find there way home 100′s of miles away. I use to enter a yearly race, over 1000 kilometers and my birds would always return. Pigeons are not that complicated and apparently solely interested in the food (reward). Students might be not that interested in the ‘reward’ at all. Pigeons are monogamous and will lay one to two eggs which hatch within eighteen days. Young are fed "pigeon milk" which is regurgitated food from both males and females. Pigeons are domesticated animals raised for sport racing, show and for food (squab). The ancestors of the pigeons we see in our cities and on our farms escaped from captivity and found a favorable environment living with humans. Pigeons are able to bond to their humans and are able to develop relationships with the people and animals of the household. Pigeons are superstitious, and I'm afraid that most of us are as well. There's plenty we do -- plenty we've always done -- that has nothing to do with what actually works. Pigeons are monogamous, having only one mate at a time, and pigeon populations usually have an equal number of males and females. The male cares for and guards the female and the nest. Pigeons are not horses that run their race around a racetrack. They can?t (not yet) be followed. Pigeons are friendly, affectionate social creatures, preferring the company of the flock than to going it alone. It's rare for pigeons ever to express aggression. Pigeons are usually larger but all the species share some interesting characteristics. They can all drink with their heads down unlike other birds that must tip their heads back to swallow liquid. Pigeons are carriers of thirty different diseases which effect humans. They carry mycotic, (airborne) bacterial, and protozoan diseases as well as various worms which live in their feces. Of the mycotic, Aspergillosis is probably the most well known. Pigeons are not the only source of this pathogen. It can also be found in bat droppings or in the soil, and is carried by the wind.
